New Product line for 2012

In early October, we will introduce major upgrades across our utility vehicle lines that will update the vehicles with a modern, more aggressive look, increase their versatility and functionality across all segments, and ultimately drive customer excitement and sales growth for E-Z-GO and its distribution partners.

The most noticeable change will be the new cowl design and standard front brush guard for all utility vehicles. The new cowl is much more aggressive than the previous design, and better positions our utility vehicles as rugged machines built for hard work and rough play. It is complemented by a front fascia underneath the cowl that completes the assertive look and also provides protection for the front suspension and other vehicle components. Finally, the brush guard is shaped from tubular steel, with reinforced connection points where it joins the cowl to guard against breakage due to hard daily use and abuse. The new cowl also features large, round integrated headlights, with the ability to add optional integrated turn signals. The new headlight design looks more contemporary and also improves lighting performance, with better light dispersion in front of and around the vehicle. For even better lighting performance, the vehicles can be fitted with optional high-output LED headlamps.

For vehicles with cargo beds, the look is continued with a new top and strut design that is much beefier and more modern than the current “golf-car” top. The new struts are fabricated from thick tubular steel, and are more steeply raked in the front for a sportier, more aggressive look. The new top is injection-molded with reinforced ribbing for high strength at lighter weight, and combines an updated look with improved protection from the elements for driver and passenger.

In addition to the changes above, the E-Z-GO ST line of trail-utility vehicles will be discontinued and replaced by two distinct product lines: the E-Z-GO Terrain line of utility vehicles with cargo beds, and the E-Z-GO Express line of utility vehicles with additional seating for moving multiple passengers.

Dulac attends workshop

Steve Dulac, service manager at E W Gardner Golf Cars, LLC, attended a three-day E-Z-GO/Textron hands-on factory work shop, which was held at E-Z-GOs facility in Middletown, N.Y.
Among the workshops offered were electric and gas cars; battery, charger and electricity technology; electric vehicle & brake overview; periodic service requirements; four cycle engine theory ; gas vehicle overview and demonstration; gas vehicle speed control and adjustment; gas vehicle electrical testing; gas rear axle tear down; compression test; Kawasaki gas engine tear down; carburetor theory and fuel system; mechanical brake overview; mechanical brake adjustment; steering overview; steering adjustment; hand held diagnostic tool use; electric vehicle diagnostics and wiring; valve adjustment; electric vehicle diagnostics practical review; and front suspension tear down.

Correct size cables

A system is only as strong as its weakest link. If you have an open in the system such as: a cable, solenoid, motor, controller, shifter or a battery; the car will not run. Likewise, if you have a component that is too small to carry a given load, the car will not perform up to desired performance.
You must have a power source (the batteries). They must be able to store the energy required for the demand the motor makes.
We must be able to deliver that stored energy through the correct size conductors (cables).
Then we have to be able to turn that delivery on and off with a contractor (solenoid) of the correct size.
Next we need a device to vary the amount of energy demanded by the motor. This device is called a controller and has multiple amperage and throttle inputs. The motor is the one component that actually controls the speed and torque of the system.

The speed and torque of a motor is influenced by many factors: large tires, hills, loads, heat and cold.

Option to customize speed of PDS systems

Available for the Precision Drive System (PDS) and a VPS or PDS controller #609083 or PDS controllers with the software revision level 1206MX-1120. It will not work on vehicles with a standard PDS controller. Vehicle Performance System allows the owner or operator to customize operation characteristics of the E-Z-GO vehicle. It also functions as a safety feature by limiting the top speed of the vehicle. The kit has three different settings that allow the car to be “shifted” quickly. The system is key operated (separate from the ignition key) and can be removed to prevent the operator from changing settings.

1. Low- Heavy Loads: The vehicle top speed is sensed and regulated by the controller with pedal up braking.
2. Low – Normal: This option has all of the features of Low – Heavy Loads except that the pedal-up braking feel is milder and the top speed is slightly higher.
3. High – Normal: This option provides no pedal up braking and the vehicle’s top speed is the highest available.

electric golf car

If you own an electric golf car, it is best to plug it into a 110 outlet w/20 amp circuit and not have anything else plugged into the same outlet. Also recommended is a good quality surge protector.

Definition of a golf car: (not defined as a motor vehicle under federal law)
Golf cars are defined under Z130.1 as a vehicle used to convey a person or persons and quipment to play the game of golf in an area designated as a golf course. To qualify as a golf car, the vehicle’s average speed shall be less that 15 mph.

Personal Transport Vehicle (PTV) or Low Speed Vehicle (LSV)
A vehicle capable of 15 MPH or more.
A PTV is a self propelled vehicle with a minimum with a minimum of 4 wheels, capable of a maximum level ground speed of less than 20 mph, maximum rated pay load capacity of 1200 lbs, maximum gross vehicle weight of 2,500 lbs, without a load platform and capable of transporting not more than four persons, operating on designated roadways where permitted by law or the applicable regulatory authority within a closed community.

Low Speed Vehicle (LSV)
A 4-wheeled motor vehicle, other than a truck, whose speed attainable in 1 mile is more than 20 miles hour and not more than 25 miles per hour on a paved level surface, governed under FMVSS 500, a National Highway Transportation Safety Administration regulation (49C.F.R. 571-500). Also see SAEJ2358 for further Low Speed Vehicle specifications including a Personal Neighborhood Vehicle (PNV), having the same specifications as a LSV with the exception that the maximum level ground speed does not exceed 20 mph.

Golf cars should be further distinguished from “golf carts,” pull carts or “caddies” A cart is not self propelling. A golf car is by definition, self-propelled either by electric motor or an internal combustion engine.

PTVs do not have load platforms. If a load platform is present, the vehicle is covered either under ANSI/ASME B56.8 (personnel carriers) or SAE J2258 (light utility vehicles). Vehicles capable of caring more than four persons are covered under ASME 56.8 (1993).
